Procrastination
Labels: misc
Comments:
I know my procrastination is due to perfectionism. I find I cannot commit to a paper (or whatever it may be) until it is my only choice to make a decision right away. Revision and editing must be done very quickly for me, or they don't get done at all. Hence why I do not believe I will write a novel anytime soon.
Also, I recently learned that procrastination is from Latin - "pro" meaning "for," and "cras" meaning "tomorrow." That might not be quite right, of course, but that's basically it.
"Does anyone procrastinate things they want to do? "I'm dying to play some video games, but I don't want to start right now. I'll mop the floor and make up a shopping list first.""
Yes, that's inatentive ADHD for you. Link, btw?
I know how you feel about procrastinating on your novel, but the wrench is this; don't you want to finish your novel? Or is the want just not up there with other, more immediate pleasures (video games, youtube, having a snack, reading paper, beer and pizza, etc.)

I still understand, because after spending a semester learning Flash I was elated; after being forced to crunch deadlines and finish a flash movie, I was easily doing 4 hours of work on it per day, or more. Now it's the last third of winterim, I've got more free time than I'll ever have at school (thanks to part time job) and I've spent less than fifteen minutes drawing sprites for a flash platformer I supposedly "want" to do. I think I have 2 or 3 frames of a sword slash drawn... I honestly think I may have to take one class per semester for the rest of my life, just so I have a mandatory deadline to follow, or I fear I'll end up shelving my pen and paper and never get any of my artwork out into the world. Well, okay, out into the world--but with a paycheck coming back to me. Or at least a fanbase.
